Take a tour of our Minneapolis Data Center

Recently, I had the opportunity to tour our data storage and business continuity data center located directly across the street from City Hall at 331 Second Ave in the Tri-Tech Office Center in Downtown Minneapolis (I confess the building photo is a stock photo because it was gray and snowing the day I visited, all the other photos I took myself). This is where nology stores the offsite data for our customers utilizing our backup and business continuity solutions.

Typically relegated to our data engineers and support staff, I would like to take you on a virtual tour and help you familiarize yourself with our data center where your bits and bytes are actually stored and protected 24x7.

The first thing I realize upon arrival is the high level of security required to enter the data center. The data center is on the buildings 3rd floor and to even access the elevator my data engineer requires a swipe card and security code. Once we reach the floor we require a separate security code to enter the steel fire door leading to the data center. Each person who enters the data center has their photo recorded by cameras mounted above the door.

Once inside everything is so clean and sanitized. There are hundreds of machines lined up in perfectly symmetrical rows and racks that tower above you, all connected by miles of fiber and Ethernet cables.

Three redundant 1200 Amp 480 Volt feeders, provide power to the data center backed up by an entire room full of batteries which are in turn connected to two massive diesel generators keeping your data highly available even in a power outage or natural disaster,

The data center has a state of the art HVAC system to keep temperatures cool and dry for the sensitive and often hot computer and networking equipment stored inside these cages.

Fire protection and prevention is also key to protecting your sensitive data. The facility is equipped with state of the art fire suppression systems utilizing dry chemicals to extinguish fires minimizing any electronic equipment damage.

It was great taking you on this virtual tour, if you are interested in our data storage and business continuity products or are an existing customer, we would be happy to take you on an actual tour of the data center with an appointment.
