A new study commissioned by Microsoft shows that companies
with an Involuntary IT manager lose around $24 million annually in productivity
combined. So what is the Involuntary IT Manager and how can companies avoid
falling into this productivity losing trap?
Picture This: Your boss asks you, the bookkeeper, if you know
anything about computers and if you can help him our with a "quick"
email issue he is having. He's your boss so of course you say yes. You don't
even know it but you've now become the office's Involuntary IT Manager.
Whenever your boss or other coworkers have a problem with technology they start
coming to you and that's all well and good until you don't have time to focus
on what you were hired to do.
According to the Microsoft study "On average, IITMs [Involuntary IT Managers] lose six hours per week of business productivity
while managing IT..." That's 15% of their work week, Yikes!
In addition to the lost productivity according to the survey, the Involuntary IT Managers:
- Feel that IT management is a nuisance.
- Indicate they do not feel qualified to manage IT.
- Want to simplify their company’s technology solutions to alleviate the difficulty of managing IT day-to-day.
How do we solve this problem?
According to the survey, cloud services can help remove most, if not all of the burden from the Involuntary IT Manager's plate. The goal of migrating any business to the cloud is to give them seamless anytime, anywhere, any device access to their critical business data with support, reliability, and service business can count on.
